Wärtsilä meddelar 21.8.2018 att man bygger Smart Technology Hub, ett nytt centrum för forskning, produktutveckling och produktion, i Vasklot i Vasa, Finland. Alla Wärtsiläs funktioner och personal i centrala Vasa kommer att flyttas till den nya Huben, tillsammans med logistik- och underhållsverkstaden från Runsor.

Tidigare gjorde Wärtsilä som majoriteten av de finska bolagen, det vill säga transporterade godset till norra Tyskland med trailer. Därifrån färdades det över Östersjön till hamnar i södra Finland för vidare transport (20–30 mil) på landsväg till Vasa.
