There are two types of thymoma in dogs: Benign - This is a non-cancerous mass which is non-invasive, meaning that it doesn’t invade surrounding tissues and Malignant - This is an invasive cancerous mass which does invade surrounding tissues and organs

Often dogs have no clinical signs suggesting the presence of a primary lung tumor. 1,2 If dogs are presented for signs referable to the respiratory tract, the most frequent abnormality, seen in 52% to 58% of primary lung tumor patients, is a chronic, nonproductive cough that fails to respond to antimicrobial and symptomatic therapies. Myasthenia Gravis in a Dog receptors (10). Receptor antibodies in humans with thymoma and MG are always positive and are inclined to have higher concentrations than MG patients without thymoma (4). Thymoma was not revealed in this dog. MG requries long-term combination therapy (11).

Thymoma is also associated with other immunogenic diseases with 20%-40% of dogs presenting with autoimmune disease such as immune-mediated anemia, polymyositis, and exfoliative dermatitis (cats) Cardiac myositis causes 3rd degree atrioventricular block suspected thymoma in a dog: a case report Jeremy Hansford* and Natalia Henao-Guerrero Abstract Background: This is the first case report description, to our knowledge, of a cranial mediastinal mass (suspected thymoma) causing orthostatic hypotension in a dog. Myasthenia gravis is a disease in which there is a malfunction in the transmission of signals between the nerves and muscles. Dogs with myasthenia gravis exhibit extreme weakness and excessive fatigue. There are two forms: inherited and acquired, and treatment is with a class of medication that inhibits a nervous system enzyme called acetylcholinesterase. 47/85 (55%) cases of thymoma had AD, including myasthenia gravis (MG) (n = 33), Hashimoto's thyroiditis (n = 4), Isaac's syndrome (n = 3), Morvan syndrome (n = 2), pure red cell aplasia (n = 2), systemic lupus (n = 2), lichen planus (n = 2), and one case of each following conditions: aplastic anemia, autoimmune hemolytic anemia, Good's syndrome, pemphigus, autoimmune hepatitis, Graves' disease Thymoma is a rare tumour that has been described infrequently in comparative literature. In this retrospective study we analyse the findings of thymoma in dogs, cats and rabbits to assess any difference.

Thymoma Thymoma is an uncommon canine and feline neoplasm of thymic epithelial cells. It is seen in various breeds but may occur more frequently in Labrador Retriever and German Shepherd Dogs. Middle-aged or older dogs (average age of 11 years) can be affected and no sex predilection exists.

Klebanow E R (1992) Thymoma and acquired myasthenia gravis in the dog - case report and review of 13 additional cases. Thymoma, thymic carcinoma, thymofibrolipoma and thymic hyperplasia are rare neoplasm of the thymus gland of dogs.. These tumors are rare and derive from epithelial components of the thymus, and accordingly classified as either lymphoid and lymphoepithelial thymomas. Results—Of the 116 dogs with thymoma, 44 (38%) were Labrador Retrievers and Golden Retrievers. Twenty of 116 (17%) dogs had signs of myasthenia gravis (diagnosis was confirmed for 13 dogs). At the time of thymoma diagnosis, 40 (34%) dogs had hypercalcemia, 8 (7%) dogs had a concurrent immune-mediated disease, and 31 (27%) dogs had another tumor; 16 (14%) dogs developed a second nonthymic Thymoma is an uncommon canine and feline neoplasm of thymic epithelial cells.
